Sheepy’s Run Sequence Analysis
INTRODUCTION
Sheepy: A Short Adventure, is a free 2D platformer that lasts between 30 and 40 minutes. It was developed by MrSuicideShip and released in 2024.
In this game, the player embodies Sheepy, a Sheep with no special abilities at the beginning of the game. As the player pogresses through the game, they gain new powers, such as the double jump, or the most important one for this analysis: the ability to run.
I invite you to watch this video below that displays the whole run sequence.
The Gameplay Sequence
WHAT MAKES THIS MOMENT GOOD?
This section is extremely polished, it’s actually one of the most memorable moments of the game thanks to the amount of work that was put into it.
VISUALS
Let’s start with the most obvious aspect, this section is extremely polished visually. It’s actually one of the most memorable moments of the game thanks to the amount of work that was put into it graphics-wise.
Sheepy is appreciated for its graphics, from the artstyle to the visual effects and sprites. One thing that can easily be noticed in this section is how the visual effects emphasize the speed: a trail behind the character, the wind coming from the right, the little creature moving next to you, only fast enough for you to notice that they start following Sheepy. All these visuals work in harmony to build a moment where you feel free, fast, and in control.

CONTROLS
The run sequence relies on something else, the smoothness of the controls. One thing that I did not talk about yet is that the game is rather slow, from the start of the game up to this moment. This means that not only the player finally sees the character moving fast, allowing them to travel more easily throughout the levels, but also that the controls now feel responsive and the character answers to the joystick movements (Sheepy is recommended to play with a controller).
